In the recent months, Jollibee has been taking social media by storm when they posted several videos in time for Valentine’s Day and Mothers’ Day. Apart from these, people has been sharing photos of Jollibee as memes, and some are even sharing videos of the mascot performing in birthday parties, controlling the traffic flow, and other unusual things. It is clear that the huggable mascot Jollibee amuses the Filipinos of every age most of the time.
Recently, a new video of Jollibee has surfaced online, initially coming from the Facebook page of ex-PBB Housemate Tanner Mata. People were quick to spread it across Facebook. In the video, Jollibee is seen dancing to the tune of Bruno Mars’ hit song Versace on the Floor. As we all know, the song has a sexy tune and meaning, and that is why the Jollibee mascot is seen dancing sensual moves. At first, Facebook users find it amusing since the dancer was able to showcase admirable dancing skills.
However, the video has also earned negative reactions especially from former and current Jollibee officers and crew members. Some are saying that it was not appropriate for a mascot, who is looked up by most children, to move in a suggestively sexual way. There was even a part of the dance routine where the Jollibee mascot unbuttons his shirt and lets it open until the end of the song.
One commenter even stated that he was assigned to be the mascot before and they received trainings that required them to dance appropriately every time they perform. They further suggested that the guy inside the mascot should be terminated as he broke Jollibee’s rules and standards.
Jollibee Corporation quickly issued an official statement through their official Facebook page, saying that they were deeply sorry to their young fans who may have been offended or disappointed by the said dance video. They further clarified that the said dance routine was part of an internal store event, and not of a children’s party. They further assured the public that they will take necessary measures to avoid something like this to happen again.
