Since social media emerged, we are constantly reminded to think before we click. Because social media are widely accessible to a lot of people, whatever we post online may end up hurting other people -- or worse, it may hit us back. Perhaps this Twitter user forgot to think before she clicked, and so the reactions her post received were unexpectedly harsh.
Twitter user fionnuts tweeted about President Duterte’s declaration of Martial Law in a sulky way. In her tweet, she said
“Nakaka insult lang na he declared Martial Law overseas. Parang nakipag break tru text. Nakaka g*go po.”Probably she thinks that something serious like a Martial Law declaration must be done formally in Malacanang. Assuming that her post was set to public, other Twitter users were quick to counter her with funny and sarcastic replies. In just an hour, her post already got 241 replies, many of which were messages of bashing.
Real some of the replies below,
Fionnuts Twitter profile was already set to private, but some users were able to get screenshots of the threads that immediately took rounds in Facebook.
Many Facebook commenters were also against the tweet, saying that it was a selfish and baseless statement. But most of the comments just made fun of the tweet. They did not take the matter seriously and as of posting, no one tried to counter the statement. Probably because they cannot address it directly to fionnuts.
Let this be a lesson for us to more careful when we share our opinions online, especially during tough times such as this. May this also push us to learn more about a situation rather than relying on gossips so we can be fully informed.
