April 20, 2017, Thursday President Rodrigo Duterte said in an ambush interview in Malacañang that he will be blocking the renewal of franchise of ABC-CBN.
President Duterte accused ABS-CBN of "swindling" and claimed that the network refrained from showing his political advertisement during the last years presidential campaign even though it was already paid by his campaign team.
The House bill 4349 that aims to renew the franchise of ABS-CBN for another 25 years is still sitting at the committee level.
At this moment ABS-CBN has not yet released their statement with regards to this issue.

According to the report published by Philippine Daily Inquirer ABS-CBN's franchise is set to expire on March 30, 2020.
“Eh ang ginawa ninyo samin is estafa, swindling not only me, but Chiz Escudero, pati si ano.. marami pa yan, i-notso ninyo.. put*** ina harap harapan magkolekta kayo tapos.. i-estafa niyo kami,”
