SILLIMAN UNIVERSITY
Prestige does not come cheap, so as a reward for giving pride to her alma mater, second placer Alanna Gayle Khio will be receiving a full refund of her 4 years worth of school expenses from Silliman University. To top that, she’ll also be receiving a brand new car and P200, 000 cash incentive from the school, as per the university’s College of Law Dean Atty. Shiela Lynn Besario.
Meanwhile, her fellow school passers, Marie Chielo Ybio and Andrew Liu won’t go empty handed as they’ll get P100, 000 each from Silliman U. They placed 9th and 10th, respectively.
Besario bared that this is the first time for alumni to pool funds for the benefit of Bar passers. Siliman produced a total of 19 new lawyers, fourteen of which are first-takers while the remaining are from previous batches.
On the other hand, University of San Carlos has four alumni who landed in the top ten, particularly first placer Karen Mae Calam.
Following the institution’s practice, these top notchers have the privilege to select a person who can avail of the university’s scholarship program. Once that person finishes the degree, he can continue to nominate another person for the rest of his life.
According to Atty. Joan Largo, Dean of USC’s College of Law, the best gift that the university can give to its top notchers is the ability to give another aspirant the blessing of education.
However, the most inspiring story has to go with RamilComendador, a 35-year old utility worker who had to skip meals to fund his college tuition fees. In an interview with Rappler, Comendador was seen bursting into tears while confirming that he passed the most difficult licensure examination in the country. Comendador recently met Manila mayor Joseph Estrada and received a cash reward of P100, 000, the sum which will be used to repair her mother’s house in the province.
Kudos to all bar exam passers!
