Taal Basilica in batangas sustained damage due to 5.5 magnitude Earthquake

SAN PEDRO CITY LAGUNA - The 19th Century Basilica of St. Martin of Tours one of Asia's largest Catholic Church, Located in Taal, Batangas was damaged by a 5.5 magnitude earthquake.


Photos of the incident were shared on facebook by some netizens revealing some of the damages to the Century old Church.

The St. Martin of tours Basilica, also known as the Taal Basilica, was built back in 1575. It is famous for its Baroque Architecture and Trompe-l'oeil painted ceilings and was also declared by the historical commission as a historical site.

According to the report by The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology, the offshore quake was centered somewhere in Tingloy Batangas struck at around 9:00 pm and was felt in some parts of Metro manila and Southern Luzon. At this point of time, There were no reported Casualties.
